Author Guidelines

INGURUAK, the official journal of the Basque Association of Sociology and Political Science, is a biannual publication whose main objective is to contribute to research, study and dissemination of the social sciences, serving as one of the fundamental platforms for disseminating political and sociological knowledge in the Basque Country.

All articles, research notes and reviews received, selected and published by INGURUAK meet the quality and evaluation criteria normally required by academic journals. To ensure compliance with these criteria, procedures have been defined in which external specialist reviewers play a central role, anonymously assessing the suitability of manuscripts.

1. Languages: Manuscripts may be submitted in Spanish, Basque or English. The title, abstract and keywords for articles must always be accompanied by an English translation.

2. Articles shall be presented as follows:

  • Articles should be between 7,000 and 10,000 words, written in Times New Roman 12 font with one-and-a-half line spacing, including graphs, tables, notes and bibliography.
  • All articles must include the title, a summary of the text (maximum 150 words), and keywords (between 5 and 7) in Basque or Spanish, and English. In other words, all articles written in Basque or Spanish must have the title, summary and keywords translated into English.
  • All graphs must be numbered consecutively, have a title and the corresponding source. The same requirements apply to tables. The text must indicate the specific reference of the place where the graphic and/or the table should be included.
  • Acronyms must be accompanied by the full name the first time they are cited in the text, and in parentheses.
  • To ensure anonymity, the names of the authors, affiliations and any other information that could identify them must be removed from the text of the manuscript. Personal information must be deleted from the document metadata. Author citations should be replaced with ‘Anonymous, xxxx’ and deleted from the bibliography.
  • A separate cover page must be attached, containing the title, authors’ names, affiliations, and contact information for one of the authors. Any acknowledgements, disclosures, or information about funding should also be included on this page.

3. Reviews: Reviews should be between 2,000 and 2,500 words, written in Times New Roman 12 point font, with one-and-a-half spacing.

4. Manuscript submission period: Those interested in publishing in INGURUAK should submit their manuscripts here. The article submission period is open all year round.

5. Fees: There are no costs for submission, processing or publication of articles.

6. Citation system: References and citations must follow the guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition. The guide produced by the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (EHU) is available at this link: http://hdl.handle.net/10810/42398

  • Internet resources:

To mention a website in general terms, simply provide the name of the site in the text and include its URL in parentheses. E.g. “We have consulted the Inguruak website (www.inguruak.eus)”.

7. Research funding: Authors shall state, where applicable, any public or private support or funding received for the development of the research.

8. Gender policies: Authors are recommended to:

a) Include the full names of authors in the bibliography, rather than using only their initials.

b) Use inclusive, non-sexist language in terms of gender when writing articles, avoiding discrimination, highlighting gender when communication requires it, and not highlighting gender when it is not necessary for communication.

9. Evaluation procedure: Submitted texts will be subject to a double-blind evaluation system, maintaining anonymity in the review of the manuscripts. To this end, following the instructions mentioned above, authors must remove their metadata from the text before submitting it. The Editorial Board and the Advisory Board will appoint external reviewers to review the submitted articles. The final publication of the document will depend on the reports produced, as well as on the authors’ incorporation of the modifications and suggestions made in such reviews, in the event of conditional acceptance. In this case, together with the reviwed article, an anonymised document may be submitted indicating the changes made, as well as any comments on the reviews that the authors consider appropriate.

The evaluation report, which will be sent to the authors, will clearly and precisely state the reasons for acceptance or rejection of the article submitted, as well as the comments or modifications required in each case with regard to the following aspects: relevance and originality of the topic, reference to the state of the art, structure and clarity of presentation, methodology and bibliography.

Articles may be rejected by the Editorial Board for formal reasons, such as: spelling, lexical inaccuracy, poor punctuation, disjointed syntax, lack of clarity or inconsistencies; or for not conforming to the thematic criteria covered by the journal. For this reason, authors are advised to review both the linguistic aspects and the thematic suitability of their texts in relation to the criteria established by this publication before submission.
